Baginski, Bodo J.; Sharamon, Shalila
Reiki-Universal Life Energy, (May 1988), LifeRhythm, ISBN: 0940795027
(A great explanation of Reiki by some European, nice, free-thinking people.)

Barnett, Libby; Chambers, Maggie
Reiki Energy Medicine, (May 1996), Healing Arts Press, ISBN: 0892816333
(A wonderful, practical explanation of Reiki for people in the traditional health care industry.)

Brennan, Barbara Ann
Hands of Light, (1987), Bantam Books, ISBN: 0553345397
(A classic textbook that explains the principle of energy and how it works in our lives. Not a Reiki book.)

amazon.com lists November 1993

Brown, Fran
Living Reiki: Takata's teachings, (June 1992), LifeRhythm, ISBN: 0940795108
(An easy read. A book about Ms. Hawayo Takata, the woman who brought Reiki to the United States.)

Doi, Hiroshi
Modern Reiki Method for Healing, (June 2000), Fraser Journal Pub, ISBN: 0968810004
(A wonderful book for anyone looking for the perspective of a real Japanese teacher in the lineage of Usui.)

Emery, Rev. Kevin Ross; Hensel, Rev. Thomas A.
The Lost Steps of Reiki, The Chanelled Teachings of Wei Chi, (May 1997), LightLines Publishing, ISBN: 1890405027
(A book recommended for people who are already Reiki practitoners. It sheds light on an alternative, yet very effective style of conducting Reiki sessions)

Haberly, Helen J.
Reiki: Hawayo Takata's Story, (June 1990), Archedigm Publications, ISBN: 0944135064
(An easy read. Another book about Ms. Hawayo Takata, the woman who brought Reiki to the United States.)

Horan, Paula
Abundance Through Reiki, (1995), Lotus Light Publications
(A great guide for using Reiki to achieve abundance in one's life, by clearing blockages on all levels.)

amazon.com lists December 1998 ISBN: 091495525X

Horan, Paula
Empowerment Through Reiki, (April 1998), Lotus Light Publications, ISBN: 0941524841
(A classic explanation of Reiki in a clear, straightforward manner.)

Jewell, Penelope
Reiki - A Guide To Your Practice Of Reiki Energy Healing, (September 1997), Adirondack Press, ISBN: 0966407202
(This book is a great addition to any beginning Reiki practitioner's library. It presents an honest, thorough, and easy to read account of the practice of Reiki.)

Kelly, Maureen J.
Reiki and The Healing Buddha, (January 2000), Lotus Press, ISBN: 0914955926
(A good book for information about Reiki's links to Buddhism. Recommended more for the advanced Reiki practitioner, not so much for beginning Reiki I and II's. This book mixes a lot of research with the personal opinions of the author, and we encourage the reader to keep this in mind while perusing this book.)

Lubeck, Walter
The Complete Reiki Handbook, (1990), Lotus Light Publications
(An introduction to Reiki that includes some of Mr. Lubecks own ways of creatively practicing Reiki.)

amazon.com lists April 1998 ISBN: 0941524876

Petter, Frank Arjava
Reiki Fire, (April 1998), Lotus Light Publications, ISBN: 0914955500
(A clear and interesting look at the origins and practice of Reiki in Japan today, explained by a European man who is currently co-teaching in Japan with his Japanese wife.)

Petter, Frank Arjava
Reiki -The Legacy of Dr. Usui, (1998), Lotus Light Publications, ISBN: 091495556X
(A follow up to Reiki Fire, this book includes more information about the origins of Reiki, including a lot of text about Dr. Usui and they way he taught Reiki.)

amazon.com lists March 1999

Steine, Bronwen and Frans
The Reiki Sourcebook, (January 2004), O Books, ISBN: 1903816556
(The Best research I've read so far on the history and evolution of Reiki. It's required reading for my Reiki Master Teacher Students. There are so many aspects of the reiki techniques who's origins were, until now, a mystery. I like this book!)

Steine, Bronwen and Frans
The Japanese Art of Reiki: A Practical Guide to Self-Healing, (April 2005), O Books, ISBN: 1905047029
(A great guide for understanding the history of Usui and Reiki. Based on real research and not speculation.)

Usui, Dr. Mikao; Petter, Frank Arjava
The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui, (June 1999), Lotus Light Publications, ISBN: 0914955578
(A translation of what appears to be some of the information in Dr. Usui's original student handbook.)

Vennells, David
Reiki Mastery, (August 2004), O Books, ISBN: 190381670x
(I love David's way of encouraging the reiki practitioner to be confident and use their practice to follow their heart!)

Yeshe, Lama
Medicine Dharma Reiki, (2000), Full Circle Publishing, ISBN: 8176210811
(Originally thought to be a breakthrough, claiming to have discovered and translated Dr. Usui's lost notes, the validity of this book (and Lama Yeshe's teaching) has since been discredited, or at least called into question by his students.)
